Beyond the Woods

Beyond the Woods

A Poem by Angel Alli

We walked into the woods

on a warm August morning,

your hand in mine.

We lived among the weeds,

and ragged thorns.

Moved with the stream.

Let the winds rule our hearts.

The rigid March air came in quickly.

Amongst the bristle,

your fingers slipped away.

I was left within the trees.

Lost. Alone. Afraid.

Beyond the woods,

where Heaven meets the Earth,

I will meet you there.

We will grasp each other once again

and journey on together.

Ignore grammar problems.

I wrote this for my father, who passed away almost 6 years ago. I dream of seeing him again one day, and that was the message I was hoping to convey in this poem.

Note on the Dates:
I was born in August and he passed away in March.

The woods as a metaphor for life and relationships is different. I havent came across that before and yet - we all use the term 'family tree' so yeah...I like that.
The sentiment in this is beautifully moving and such a great write of grief and thankfulness for the years together and of faith in the hereafter.
It has such spirituality threaded through it. Its lovely Alli.

So nice, the slipping away, but also the promise of meeting again, nice work.
