Hints

The hints I drop

Dare I say

Are no different from the breadcrumbs

Young Hansel and Gretel dropped on the forest floor

The more I hint

The less he seems to see

The less he sees

The more meaningless my trials seem to be

Sooner or later

I’ll begin to drop rocks

Something larger than breadcrumbs

Shall certainly make him notice

Maybe I’ll drop something shiny

Something that glitters in the sunlight

As well as the pale light of the moon

Something to catch his eye

Maybe I’ll finally get his attention.

Maybe he’ll finally see

The special place he holds in my heart

And how much he means to me
