Like Air

Like Air

A Poem by Shweta

I was there, waiting..
in the hope;
In the hope of a moment or two with you?
Or was I looking for some conviction?
that you were really gone;
Like air in that of mist
or love lost in the eyes of a lover
that's incapable to carry
for its weight of lightness?

I was there like air in the scent of fresh mud
drenched in rain,
trying to find my subsistence in its being..
What? Not of you.
Oh not of you!
But of that light that might have led me to you.

The air, announced me of your arrival..
when, when i was not looking
when i was quiet within
Almost sleeping..
But then,
"When was I even awake?"
Just gone numb of wait,
and eternity passed by
Just some shattered bits
slowly losing its sheen in the frame..

How'd i make such a mistake?
That I was dead already
Not gone yet
But then..

But then,
You were there, right in front of me
How would I have mistaken you for someone else?
Those eyes that spoke of truth
lips that always twitched the regular way
on seeing me?
Or those hair that teased me,
asking me,
"Where..?"

It's like the painful truth of "it's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all", but in reality you never loved at all. I'm caught in the middle with this poem, going both ways of love and sweet sorrow. Well penned, poetess, well penned.

Shukriya! 🙏
there was fire in her eyes
and the flames touched me
now she is gone
and her memory flickers over and over
in my eyes.

This, the choices and bargains that we make, the chances we take of life . The questions we ask of the paths we have crossed. Are we where we truly belong or did we miss some other destiny along the way? There is not a single line of this that is not rendered from beauty and what I know to be all in your poetry.

I ask the same and wish I could write it with such elegance, but just as the pallets of the painter we all have different colors to choose our emotions from.

Remarkable is not a statement I would choose but rather windswept as the title suggests or perhaps simply you. But then….:)
