The Wanderer

The Wanderer

A Poem by Amitesh Rout

It all started the funny way

When they both were far away

The moon kept shining as it had

But somehow the man did fall apart

Entrapped in an illusion he led the path

Rather into darkness and a world apart

The moon, chained, stopped one day

The man edging close to a world so grey

He still marched on to his deary dew

Never realized its only a night's brew

Finally a drop landed over his cheeks

Yet he had those freaky cold peeks

Shuddering he tried to find his way back

But the moon, already away on its track

A light, even a flicker was all he wanted,

But darkness never leaves its prey for granted

Into the sky now when he stares

The moon hides in clouds as it fares

Dwelling in the dark he sees the light

As a ball of snow in a starry night.
