Carry OnA Poem by Ames
I wonder how you were
Were you aware? Did you know? Was it all a show? Perhaps you heralds were troubled Yet my megrim is twice as doubled I fathom half as much as less as I need to know Was it all a mummer's farce...a Trouper's show? A comic tragedy more like Hence the solemn smile Now we tread the moon like Mike In his shoes we would walk a mile Wait! It comes! It all adds up like Montessori sums I am as you were when you were and I was not Yet I am more than I am for what I am is what you were not I shall follow your footprints to its inevitable precipice But not beyond, lest I feel release by my own bliss Yours was the prologue Mine the epilogue to your prologue "You did not finish the race you started" some say They forget it was a relay You passed the baton Now I must carry on... © 2016 Ames |
