The Inner BattleA Poem by AmericanStandard
My story of good and evil is a story unheard,
So listen closely to what is said as I scream out every word.
This battle is not raged between heaven and hell,
This battle has nothing to do with God or Satan and the riddles that they tell.
This war is fought body and mind versus heart and soul.
The outcome uncertain as this story continues to unfold.
The mind is full of rage, to which the body reacts with thunder,
The heart is full of sorrow as the soul begins to sunder.
The mind screams "Break em down!" as the body prepares to fight,
And the heart commands "I will not be broken!" causing the soul to ignite.
The mind strikes back with memories of pain and misery,
The heart again answers with love and sympathy.
The body unleashes a mighty blow, smashing through the wall.
The soul charges back with compassion, never showing sign of withdraw.
The mind storms, "Look what has taken place, do you not see what has been done?!"
The heart booms, "But she is the one I love and obstacles can be overcome!"
The body yearning to break another, until they fall dead upon the ground,
But the soul counterstrikes keeping the bodies fists tightly bound.
The mind erupts, "Why are you doing this? Are you blind to our great cause?"
The heart simply responds, "What cause?
The cause to hurt other people, to justify our pain?
Or is it the cause to make you God like; forcing tears to fall like rain?
Suppose you win this battle and the heart and soul admit defeat.
Where will your anger take you; besides alone in the streets?"
The mind begins to spin and turn as if caught in a whirlwind,
The body starts to break down wishing everything would end.
The heart beats with uncertainty badly bruised from the fight,
And the souls spirit aches, ever so dimly shining its light.
For they all know this battle is over, but the war has just begun,
And who will win between good and evil? That fate lies with only one.
