Please Be Real

Please Be Real

A Poem by AJadeLion
"

Thoughts before prom last year. I'm trying writing again, we'll see how this goes.

"
Prom. Tonight.
Please be real
I am almost grown
Yet I feel like a child
Not because
I never had sex
Or did drugs
Or even learned to drive
Just more and more of the time
I feel hollow
Safe and Protected
But empty
No substance to prove years
For its all been corroded away
By an all encompassing depression
Trying to turn me
Into a cold shell of what
Could be
Used to be
So I try to compensate
Using things
Material things
Shallowly anchoring myself
To this reality
Mimicking living
Using vanity
Pretty Makeup
Glitzy Dresses
High heels in a ballroom
So I can simulate-
No, so I can really feel again
I am almost grown
Please be real
