6A Chapter by Amber
The
bell screeched loudly just as I reached registration, I stepped into the
classroom giving Mrs. Williams a weak smile before scurrying over to my usual
seat next to Jessica. Only when I got there mine and Jess’ usual spot was taken
by two boys who weren’t even in our registration last term.
I
felt a pull at my sleeve, when I glanced own I realised Jessica was behind me.
She had decided to sit at the table directly to the right of our usual location
and she scooted over to the next chair so I could sit down.
“What’s
with the random lads? And why are they in our speck?” I asked her before my bum
had even reached the seat.
“I
dunno, apparently they had to move to our registration, their class has had to
be split up or something ‘cause the teacher couldn’t deal with them.” Jessica
answered, her eyes lit up at the idea of me finally giving in to a bit of
gossiping.
“Went
mental supposedly, threw a chair across a room and locked someone in a cupboard
before declaring that he was going to go grow flowers or some s**t.” She
continued.
“What?
That’s insane do you really believe that?” I turned and cocked one eyebrow at
her.
“You
really don’t pay attention do you? It happened on like the last day of term,
it’s all everyone’s been talking about on MSN.” She giggled.
I
rolled my eyes but smiled at her anyway, Jessica was my friend, one of my only
friends and all but she loved to gossip way too much. She always had a story
about someone getting into a fight, or somebody calling someone else names
behind their back. Often I just pretended to listen smiled and nodded until it
was out of her system, usually by the end of registration, and we could
continue our day.
Before
I could ask Jessica about her Christmas the head belonging to the girl sat
directly in front of me whipped around, almost blinding me with her long hair.
“eeeww!
Why are ick and eck sitting near us?”
It
was Katy and therefore my expression remained neutral and unmoved. In September
when we started out at this school she and her mates seemed to take an instant
disliking to us.
Maybe it was because I embarrassed her in
English by jumping in with the correct answer when Mrs. Williams asked her and
she didn’t seem to know. I honestly thought I was helping her out, but it was a
simple question and laughter rippled through the class. Ever since then she
sort of hated me, and I made sure to keep myself to myself it really wasn’t
worth the hassle.
Four
months on and it was starting to get boring. I never tend to say anything to
her, not because she scares me, because she really doesn’t. I just can’t be
bothered with it, and I certainly don’t want to end up with some girl screaming
bloody murder in my face. Perhaps my mind hadn’t quite switched off from the mornings
banter with Jack because before I even knew what was happening my lips were
moving.
“Oh
just shut up would you and crawl back into the hole you slithered out of.” I
glared at her and just as quickly as she had turned round she shot back.
“I
suddenly remember why we choose to sit over there all the time.” I sigh to
Jessica while looking to my left at our usual speck.
The
boy in my usual seat, which just so happened to be the seat nearest to me, was
facing away from me deep in conversation with the boy sat next to him. The boy
in my seat had atop his head a mop of messy, damp, slightly curly, chestnut
coloured hair.
I
suddenly realised that keeping myself mostly to myself was potentially going to
be nigh on impossible from now on, especially with him around. © 2016 AmberAuthor's Note
