Damn, What a Way To Go.A Poem by Amber V. Black
The summer you will spend chasing around a blonde boy for the first time
will be the same summer you will learn you can hurt someone. It will be the summer spent strumming half known tunes on an acoustic electric guitar while trying not to catch a chill next to the campfire. It will be the one spent trying to hide the unmistakable sound of (Glass Bottles Clanking) together, the one with all together, too many people in the Jacuzzi. The last "before college" summer when your best friend will be in Cali, And your other with her boyfriend, so you'll spend it mostly with him. Those hot summer nights you'll spend trying to connect to a boy- in Georgia who was eating out of -practically- the same Chinese food container. (Separate States) Days you'll spend on a softball field, hoping no one will catch the looks you'll fill with too much admiration for him. (The softball field days will always be chased with copious amounts of Dr. Pepper and a blue slushy) While you're driving around one day, he'll stick his head out of the sunroof- while you swerve to pull him in. Pulling him in, To kiss you, closer, closer. You'll waste your time at the Music Den when you know damn well that you have college packing to do. (You won't care) The kayaking trip through a cove will seem too beautiful to be real; His body on yours, he will always seem too beautiful to be real. & you'll feel your heart swell when he sings, when his sister runs up to you with open arms; & you'll feel it deflate when he tells you, he did it out of spite, when he stops returning your texts (This will not be just a puncture wound) As the summer ends, you'll spend your nights driving around in circles, listening to the radio I'm trying to find the songs we listened to I'm trying to remember how it felt the first time he kissed me (It wasn't summer) © 2014 Amber V.
