Behind My Eyes

Behind My Eyes

A Poem by AmberMorgan
"

A Villanelle

"
Instead of light that testifies,
I have found a sickening pleasure
In the darkness behind my eyes.

I notice that it occupies
Every moment of my leisure.
Against it the light testifies.

I have set out to analyze
What the devil calls his treasure,
In the darkness behind my eyes.

I have rested in those sweet lies.
Distraction as countermeasure,
Against the light that testifies.

I have struggled in compromise
Only to find more displeasure
With the darkness behind my eyes.

I have found that shame magnifies
All that I have mourned as impure
In the darkness behind my eyes.
Against it the light testifies.

What do you think of the Villanelle? Do the minor variances in the repeated lines work or hinder the form?
