The Hard Work Finally Begins

The Hard Work Finally Begins

A Chapter by Amazonia_08

The Shapeshifter woman has finally begun her work to change World War 2 towards the Allies favor.

I flew away from the base and towards the nearest telegraph location. I fished in my pocket for a few cents before I walked in. The thing about this era is that the money worth is completely off from what I am used to, and sometimes I made small mistakes when I paid for something. How can you blame someone who’s used to milk being over two dollars a gallon? I walked up to the counter and asked the worker for a paper and a writing utensil, and scribbled the message hastily.

TO: The President, The White House, Washington D. C. War is coming, and  you must watch for the wisdom of the owl, the guidance from the panther, and make no hasty decisions. For there is one who knows what is to come.

I finished my name with a curl of the letter A and handed the letter to the telegraph man. He laughed when he saw to whom it was addressed to. “Are you really sending the President a message when there are foreign pilots trying to take Pearl Harbor?”

I rolled my eyes. “Yes, and if you don’t hurry up and send it, things are going to get really bad around here. I have a schedule to live by sir”. I glanced down at the piece of paper he was hanging onto limply. “Well get a go on it, and I’ll pay twice the cost”.

He seemed to perk up at the idea of being paid extra. With the roaring of the planes and the chaotic screams everywhere, I would assume that he would pocket the extra half. I then mentally rolled my eyes at that thought. It’s not like it would matter anyways. Compared to my time, these small purchases were nothing. He walked into the back for a few moments before returning back into the main parlor.

“Alright Ma’am, it’s all done. You still remember your deal?” I fished out the remaining coin and handed them over quickly. “Thank-you,” I replied before heading out of the small shop.

I headed towards my living quarters, and had my key already in my hand. My living quarters were secretly modernized behind a secret passageway, and with help from my close friends in the future. When I was in the secret room, I could teleport anywhere in the world, which helped moving around the world easier. In each house I owned, there was a bookcase with a bunch of books, which led to the modern room. One book in particular possessed a secret and unique code to open the passageway to the secret chambers. The code to open the passageway was to place the string bookmark in the correct page, and then slip it in another spot near the books that were near the top of the shelf.

We had come up with this idea, so it would make it less likely for someone to enter the chambers accidentally. I quickly put in the code and scurried towards the teleporting glass to choose my next destination. I opened the glass doors, and turned the knob so that it said New York City, New York. I closed my eyes because I absolutely despised the gurgling feeling I got in my stomach from being sucked in the wormhole. Within minutes, the feeling passed, and I closed the glass doors. I made my way towards the passageway entrance, and opened the bookcase door; before walking out and closing it softly behind me. I tidied my appearance by fixing my hair, and patting down my dress.

I walked around the apartment I own in New York to make sure that nothing had been disturbed before I slipped out into the busy street. The first thing I heard was the newspaper boy yelling, “Extra, extra!! Read all about it!! Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor! Get your copy here!”

I internally groaned. I had so much work to do now.

Fun read! More description would be a good way to to expand this, but besides that great use of dialogue, and detail. You look like you know a lot about your history, it'd been fun to see your character try and change assassinations. I'll be looking forward to more...great job!
