Introduction

Begins at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

The battle had begun when the Japanese decided to bomb Pearl Harbor early Sunday morning. It was nearing eight o’clock in the morning on Dec 7, 1941; people were doing what they always did. The mates on the decks of the military ships would pass a joke or two while the people on the Island would prepare to go to Sunday school, or sleep in. It was such a startling thing to wake up to. Tons of planes were flying overhead, and everybody had stood in a slight daze before the first few bombs were dropped; leaving trails of smoke and loud cracks of the bombs exploding across the harbor.

The Great United States was neutral in the war up until this moment, and there was a task I was supposed to do and failed. I shook it off because I had plenty of other historical events I needed to change. It was hardy work trying to warn close-minded men about a war that would end up a bloody and tragic mess. Being a woman in these times was a lot harder than I had recalled reading about in history books.

I made my way carefully into a part of the dock that was concealed as much as possible, and shifted into one of my few forms. I took off into the air, glad that the sailors were preoccupied with the incoming enemy to notice an owl taking off, an animal completely out of place in this island setting.

I had already tipped the captain that today was a good day for flying and to watch for the skies. Quite honestly, it shouldn’t be that hard to decipher enemy planes dropping bombs. I had already read about the next years of the war many times, as it was my duty to change as much history towards the Allies favor as possible. It would prove to be difficult- if it hadn’t already-but of course I was gifted with some extra luck and persuasive abilities from being a special kind of soul. Yet, it didn’t help that I was a woman. Then again, as a woman it was damn sure easier to go about unnoticed. If it wasn’t clear from my owl transformation. This is what I prepared for, and now was the last time to change history before I returned home.

very interesting plot so far!
i thought that the beginning was a little slow, but you picked up at the beginning of the second paragraph, and ended very nicely, keeping readers intrigued.

something about how this was written, as well as the sentences around it, don't make it seem startling at all.. you make it sound like bombs dropping are as normal as seeing birds fly, which we know very well that it isn't! x) so i would definitely suggest adding more description, elaboration, and using interesting vocabulary words or writing techniques such as dialogue and metaphors/similes to keep the reading hooked.
