Dear Brain, stop reading history books. Love- your Heart

Dear Brain, stop reading history books. Love- your Heart

A Poem by A.marie.speaks
"

A quick, comical dig at history I wrote a few months back while reading A People's History of the United States, Howard Zinn.

"

We are a nation of thieves!

Please! Someone stop me

from reading any more history

How could this be?

Was there never a time when America

Actually stood for liberty and justice for all !?!?

I'm in over my head!

have you ever dove too deep into history?

the conspiracy theorist in me finds questions that creep

through the cracks in their 'facts'

they scratch at the back of my mind...

I search but I cannot find

a time

or place

where the power of secrecy was replaced

by the power of truth..

almost like black comedy...there is humor but it digs deep...like Steppenwolf sang in Monster..."we bullied , bought and stole a homeland"---
and now there is so much secrecy that even when the truth is revealed, we don't believe it is actually truth...

power in these words...

Marie you ask very good and important questions. I, as a Brit, could pontificate about corrupt rule, but as I've just finished reading a book that describes how the British Government basically endorsed selling opium to the Chinese for nearly 200 years whilst banning its use at home because of its addictive nature ... Or the ways that cities like Bristol and Liverpool were basically built on the proceeds from the slave trade ... well a Brit is in NO position to pontificate. Yes, you have a deeply odious occupant of the White House who's using executive orders like they're going out of fashion. But actually he's 'only' doing exactly what he said he would before he was voted in, so there is a sort of twisted democratic mandate despite bypassing Senate and Congress. Then we all recall Watergate 'I am not a crook', and of course there have been countless others in their different ways ... 'I did not have sexual relations with Ms Lewinsky ...' What's Baron Acton's old saying "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely" or more accurately "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority, still more when you superadd the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority. There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it. "

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment! I really appreciate the compliment.
The more we know. The more we want to forget. History teaches us. No clean government. Most places based on blood and someone losing land and their homes.

Read a Helen Jackson book "A century of dishonor" written over a 100 years ago. We learn. Ain't no secrets if we research. Thank you my friend for sharing the excellent poetry.
