Borderlines

Borderlines

A Poem by A.marie.speaks

I cannot decipher for the life of me
where thin lines divide
our blurry world into sections.
I cannot begin to define
where we change from beings to organ systems,
from systems to cells,
from cells to atoms...

Is it like geometry? --
Where a square is a rectangle but
a rectangle can never be a square?

Where do we leave nature and become human?
Are we not the same?
I always believed we were but the world has showed me
I was wrong,
Most assume we do not belong Within but Above.

So where are the borders?
I want to return to my atoms.
I want to blend with this world.
Absorb and be diluted by the beauty of Simplicity and Complexity wrapped into one.

Marie Hi. As a piece of writing, I think this exactly meet its brief. It must do, because I read the whole thing and didn't once think ouch - in fact I didn't think anything other than pondering your well posed question(s).

Gosh. Are humans superior to all other creatures? What is it to be human? What defines us? Depending on how you frame it, there are plenty of intelligent creatures. I'm guessing that theologians and scientists might sees these things quite differently. And now we're embarking on a journey of replacement human parts, from which it's only a step to humans being farmed for this purpose. [If you haven't come across it, try and watch "Never let me go".] The borderlines are becoming more and more clouded.

Very thought-provoking ...

Hello! It has been a while!

This is a very philosophical piece! The blurred lines of existence....where do they start and end? Where do they entwine? Do they entwine at all? Very thoughtful words that one must ponder at various stages of life.

As a scientist i very much enjoyed your use of scientific terminology throughout.

This one fired my synapses, so thank you for that! And welcome back!

Me too. I want to join the below lines.
"So where are the borders?
I want to return to my atoms.
I want to blend with this world.

I liked the lines above. Create place and vision for the reader. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
