An Ode to Writing

An Ode to Writing

A Poem by A.marie.speaks

Nothing I say will ever be heard
So why do I bother writing one word
Describing one verb
Allowing this flow to turn
My feelings that storm
Into phrases that swarm
My eardrums they warm
When my heart is too torn
My voice too weak to mourn
To paper, my pen has sworn
And silently it glides with me
Creating my form
My structures, my lines
My mind designs in rhyme
But sometimes...
I question it's methods
Wouldn't it be best if I left it
Behind
Stop wasting my time
I cannot connect as hard as I try
But I guess that I will always look by
For my hand just loves to write..

Very nice! I really like what you've launched here.

Full disclosure, here - I'm a novice. Kindly take whatever constructive remarks I make as they are intended. When I see something that has substance, I purposely take time to comment and offer up thoughts, and your writing does make me pause.

This does pull back the cover and reveal aspects of the push-pull relationship some describe with writing but, as you say, your hand just loves to write - what choice do you have?
I wonder if changing the position of some line in relation to others might help add to the flow you have?
I don't know about the line: "To paper, my pen has sworn" - maybe feels a little forced? Is there another way to approach this and still fit with your rhyme and flow.

I like this. My sense about your ability to write is that you can take this one up different several staircases and change the level significantly.

Thank you. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment in depth like you have. I will definit.. read more
I enjoyed the poem. I once read that the reason young actors flock to Hollywood without even a hope of “making it” as stars is because they cannot “not” act.

I think it is the same with writers. If you knew in your heart that you would never be published and still write, you are a writer. We don't need outside acknowledgment.
