OBSERVER'S INSIGHT into Trans-Dimensional Turtles

OBSERVER'S INSIGHT into Trans-Dimensional Turtles

A Story by Marie R. Turtlback
"

This is my review of the TMNT episode Trans Dimensional Turtles where the 1987 turtles meet their 2012 turtle counterparts.

"
This is my long awaited attempt to write a review about an episode after a long hiatus, I used to write reviews for two episodes of Transformers Prime on Deviantart, but when I didn't get any feedback I took a step back from reviewing. That being said I'm much more confident now, so here's my review of Trans-dimensional Turtles.
A while back ago, I had watched a video on YouTube of the TMNT panel which had announced that their would be a crossover episode featuring the 1987 Turtles meeting their 2012 Turtle counterparts. As a fan of the 2012 Turtles cartoon I was very excited about this as it not only would have the original 1987 Turtles voice actors back, but also I wanted to see how the writers and staff would have these two different dimensional turtles react to one another. As a person who watched Turtles Forever, I wanted to see how they would handle this and let me just say they didn't disappoint.
The episode starts off with the Turtles and Professor HoneyCutt discussing on how they need to destroy the Black Hole Generator with HoneyCutt worrying that if they don't destroy it the Triceratons could easily be able to copy the schematics of the Generator. Suddenly, HoneyCutt's instruments pick up a trans dimensional signal locking on to four targets...the Turtles vanish and wind up in the 1987 Turtles dimension (this sounding familiar). So, after a brief fight between the two turtles groups with Raph87 taking a jab at his counterpart and at Donnie12's voice, the turtles are soon made aware of the reason they were called to the 87 Turtles dimension. Apparently Kraang, who is cousin to the 2012 Kraang is setting up bombs in both dimensions, hoping to destroy them along with the Turtles themselves. Both Turtle groups are then teleported to the 2012 dimension, where the 2D Turtles are 3D. The group manages to get the first bomb and take it back to the lair, with the 2012 Turtles seeing their lair after so long and being reunited with Splinter once again (so many feels in this scene). Although Leo wants to tell Master Splinter of his fate, he is interrupted by the Donnie's, who have discovered that the bombs are in sync with another bomb that is in the 87 Dimension. They go through the portal, however they are intercepted by Kraang SubPrime and Kraang himself, who have used the TechnoDrone to intercept them. After a skirmish, the Turtles get the bomb from the 87 dimension, however that wasn't the only bomb that was planted. Apparently, Kraang has planted a bomb in the Prime dimension, with it destroyed the Turtles will cease to exist. The Donnie's manage to get the bomb without being taken out by the Prime Turtles (they don't have any speaking roles). With the bombs destroyed, Kraang SubPrime learns about Kraang's deception and banishes him once again. The Turtles soon do battle with Kraang SubPrime, soon sending him without his robotic body to the Prime Dimension. With things back to normal, both Turtles soon bide the others farewell, the episode ending with the 1987 Turtles going up against the worm from "Wormquake' and TigerClaw.
Although this was a fast paced 22 minute episode, I for one actually enjoyed it. Even though the plot was basically similar to Turtles Forever, I liked how the Fred Wolf Turtles were portrayed in this episode compared to how they were in Turtles Forever. Now I'm not mocking the movie or saying they should have done more to it, but I for one like how the 2012 Turtles connected with their 1987 counterparts and that the 1987 Turtles were more helpful then they were in Turtles Forever. That being said this episode brought a great combination of humor and call outs to other Turtles franchises(Kraang SubPrime's Megan Fox line was the BEST!). I also will say that I enjoyed hearing Noon Lee as Master Splinter once again, it's been so long. The scene in the 2012 Turtle lair really was a very nostalgic scene for me, also the fighting scenes had their moments. Overall, this episode even though it was a stand alone episode really was enjoyable, not only having Cam Clarke, Townsend Coleman, Barry Gordon, Rob Paulsen and Pat Fraley reprising their roles, respectively, but also how well the two Turtles group each showed respect toward each other even though their techniques were different from one another.
This episode may have been a step back from the Black Hole Generator story line, but it wasn't that much of a disappointment and it did give us a break from space. Still I can't wait to see how the other episodes turn out and if the 2012 Turtles earth will eventually be saved. This is Observer's Insight, till next time.
