The Sacrificial Lamb

The Sacrificial Lamb

A Poem by Aly
"

It was a poem that just sort of came to me. Hope you enjoy.

"

I feel like my thoughts are drowning me in a slow, tragic death.

Wanting to be loved,

Wishing I could love.

Wanting to be good enough,

Wishing I was enough.

My hollow, scarred heart sighs in disappointment.

“It never was, nor will it ever be,” it whispers to me.

After all that I’ve fought for,

And after all that I’ve lost,

I think losing myself was the worst.

Little did I know then,

That trying to save you

Was killing me, too.

As Alan put it, this is a poem that many can identify with - including myself. The lines "Wanting to be loved, Wishing I could love." I found particularly interesting. Love is vital for a person's good health, but to be loved we must also love back. However, how can we show love if we've never experienced the phenomenon ourselves in the first place? That's at least my interpretation of those lines.

You've made good use of some rethorical figures, for example personification and that's always great to see. For a poem that just sort of came to you, I find it very good. Keep it up.

I'm not sure that enjoyment is the proper term it but it's a very sincere cry of anguish. Whether this is from personal experience or not many people will identify with these words.
Regards,
Alan
