Concrete Cage

Concrete Cage

A Poem by AlteredReality

They’ve barred me up in the light

Trapped in a concrete cage,

Though if eyes would offer their sight

They’ll see the drying’s only first stage.

While plastic chains and transparent blindfolds

Provide amusement and frustrations of old,

Among ashen absurdities my will has been burned

Though inside my chest the phoenix awakes,

Her eyes pierce the veil and truth claims are spurned

My eyes start to live; the dripping bars shake.

Like a sunburst trampled under the earth’s green grass

She extends her path through the molten skies,

Snatching with black talons chances as they pass

And lands with laughter at the disposal of her guise.
