Child of Evergreen

A Poem by Jesse

I wrote this poem for one of my first year writing courses at UPEI, and liked it. Thought I should share.

Child of Evergreen

None know the woe of winter,
That do no harm nor act the splinter;
To pierce the flesh of child born still,
Beneath the shelter of Evergreen hill.

Who does lay so cold and torn,
The child whom never felt the warmth of spring?
So long has her hands lay cold and worn,
That the song of bells she did never ring.

To her memory none weep nor cry,
For her old life was but a lie.
To the grown who pray there is never blame,
To neglect a child of winter's shame.
