Don't Jump

Don't Jump

A Story by Ayana Logan

You're standing there on the edge of the roof looking at the ground below. Your hair is a mess and your makeup is destroyed. The black lines on you face tell the world you have been crying. The people on the street now notice you up on the roof. Some scream for you not to jump, some call the police. But you don't notice them. You are too caught up in your own thoughts of suicide.

You're thinking of what brought you here. You had been tortured and ridiculed for so many years now. Abused verbally and physically. The only people you thought you could trust turned on you as well. Your own flesh and blood abandoned you. So now you stand on the roof and wonder what the world would be like without you. Would anyone even notice or care?

I would care. Even though I don't know you at all, I would care if you were gone. Because I support who you are and what you believe. The people around you shouldn't control your life. You can take control back, believe in yourself and love yourself. So, please, for me... don't jump.
