GoodbyeA Poem by amandamercer`xoA family friend just died last week, and it inspired me to write this poem. Rest In Peace.
A fist clenches at my heart,
And I can no longer breathe. I stare into your open coffin, But find I can no longer see. Tears roll down and touch your face, As I kiss your lifeless cheek. I take your stone cold hand, And feel my knees go weak. People give me looks of pity, But they'll never really know. I give you one last hug goodbye; Momma says it's time to go. I scream and cry as she pulls me away, And it's overwhelming, this loneliness. Momma says I'll see you again, In a place of pure bliss. But how can I believe her? For this pain won't go away. I'm told that it won't last forever, But for how long, they never say. And even though you're gone for good, I still feel you all around. Your presence is something I cherish, And it hurts less every day, I've found.
