Single Father

Single Father

A Poem by Alona Rivika

I have listened to a humbled man cry out his vows and dreams, wanting to be the best he can be. Carry his children on his shoulder, when he is tired of walking. Pay the bills that he has no use for paying? Try to lift everyone up, when they are slumping his shoulders down.  He is someone everyone should  try to be, including me.

He loves his daughters with the kindest eyes. He knows his job is not to criticize, but be the most influential parent his daughter’s life. Let the world be her biggest critic and her father be the biggest gimmick. Stare past their flaws and deep into their pure reflection. He sees her to be perfect and loves her as if her mother were there.

We all should be like this man and surpass the fear to express love. Love will conquer our fear and fear will not be our motivation. Doing what's right will shape who we are.

-says the man through his movements
