A Prayer for Venezuela

A Prayer for Venezuela

A Poem by Allyson Wolfe
"

I am upset with the re-election of Chavez in Venezuela. Nobody should be able to rule for 20 years, least of all him. This is my reaction.

"
For the love of those who may one day be freed,
and so I plead:
If you see the dire need
of a people who rely on a dictator's lead;
pray for Venezuela; do them this kind deed.
Plant for them this hope, let them succeed.
One day they will rise, a flower amongst the weed,
live by this message, make it your creed!
I pray for Venezuela, from their dictator, freed.

Criticism appreciated. Many of my friends are Venezuelan and I feel strongly for their plight.

Now that all that's off my chest, let me give credit for an inspired work that seeps with the zeal of youth and the drama of having a cause. I applaud all that and you have presented it extremely well. My contratulations.

My son lives in Lara, Venezuela with his girlfriend of many years. I live in Mexico but have visited him on various occasions. I found Chavez to be opposed largely by the wealthy who had their control and profits interrupted. I also found him to be loved deeply in the barrios where they now have free education, free clinics, and special classes to teach them of their constitutional rights. I am not praising him, but I am saying that his support and opposition is found within a social system that used to be caste and where the barrios were not even listed on maps and the people did not exist.

You're incredibly good at packing a spectrum's worth of emotions and images into relatively small poems. Less is certainly more in the case of your writing. Keep up the good work^^

well, it aint "don't cry for me Argentina" but i love it because, coming from you it is believable and sincere. i can feel the passion in this write and it is obvious that you nurtured every word to sound and feel just right...well done , almost makes me want to run off and support some cause....(almost) i tried it with the vietnam war many years ago and we failed ...sounds like i grew up in a third world country with a slimy little dictator....oh, yeh, that's right...his name was Nixon
