An Epic to the Modern Era

An Epic to the Modern Era

A Poem by Allyson Wolfe

Modern gods and fairy tales,

oh what have we become?

Tortured souls and tortured wails!

Tell us what mankind has done!

The trick to our humanity

is what we have become.

We function with insanity

just knowing what we've done.

Modern deities so great?

Well what have they become?

Power figures full of hate!

Who knows what they have done!

The fairy tales of this age, too!

Now I know what we've become!

The lust and sex that hath ensued,

they've shown us what we've done.

So now I see humanity,

and what it has become.

Modern fairy tales and deities,

dripping with sensuality,

screaming of insanity,

written in profanity!

Divine it all it's vanity!

Devoid of all it's sanity!

I guess it's what we've done!

Thank you so much! :)
This is a very interesting and inventive piece! I love the subject matter and teh way the speaker puts their view across. I do sort of agree with you, as much as I love modern supernatural/fairy tales/deities stories they are not the same as they used to be! No heros or heroines like old fashioned sword wielding, fighting for honor and the cause etc. etc. Such a good piece! I really enjoyed reading it!

A very interesting piece. I like the rhyme and your great choice of words. I love the subject you chose to speak of. Overall though my favorite part of this poem is the emotion. It starts of questioning, almost bewildered, but swiftly transitions into knowing. That knowledge, of the narrator and so to the reader, incites anger. The fury and rage of this piece is wonderful. It's a big "Look at how we have torn our values apart" piece. Humanity, and all of its social practices, has fallen into decay.

That's what I get from this.

No more epic tales of love and adventure. The Heroes are all dead, the monsters long ago turned to dust. A crumbled tower lies forgotten, the princess within having succumbed to grief in a bygone age. All that's left is festering wound that humanity has become.

Excellent piece. It makes me want to write.

However, there are a few places were you misspelled a couple words. Take a gander.

My favorite stanza is the last. It's full of emotion.
