This Heart of Mine

This Heart of Mine

A Poem by Allyson Wolfe

The things you've done with this heart of mine,
well they won't be justified.
So as I sit here, all alone,
see yourself on your "power throne".
You, a king?
Don't make me laugh.
A crown of foil,
a pipe? Your staff.
The things you did with this heart of mine.

Wow. This is really quite raw. The juxtaposition of regal terminology and imagery with the reality really hit me from "power throne". For a moment I thought you were havin' a larf but then I saw a sad, unkempt dude playing games in his underpants one of those special gaming chairs. (People with those chairs must love their butt too much).

From then on, the whole thing clicked. This vignette really means that, by the time you get to the repetition of the first line, you feel a real sense of empathy for the heart-hurt court jester.
