Two Spirits Intertwined

Two Spirits Intertwined

A Poem by Allyson Wolfe

Within me there are two spirits.
One is fierce,
wild,
passionate.
She screams and howls,
she paces and waits
(impatiently)
for her release.
There is another spirit,
more profound,
quiet and calm,
she makes decisions,
she thinks logically,
she waits
(patiently)
for her capture.
Two spirits,
(one fierce, one calm)
intertwined,
wrap around my heart.
But which is the real me?

This is a very insightful piece. It has often been thought that each person has two versions of themselves within. Different words have been used to describe this throughout history, in different cultures and in differing philosophies. The light and dark, yin and yang, and the shadow self are all ways humanity has chosen to describe what you have put to words here.

I think the answer is that both are too connected for there to be a clear cut choice as to which one is the real you. The light and the dark, the calm and the irrational, the cold and the caring, animal and man, neither can exist without the other.

The title of this poem captures that idea completely, while the actual piece lays out the timeless question.

You've done well with this poem.

I noticed you have an ongoing theme here with this one and 'The Wolf'. Souls being trapped, wild living within another soul. I like it. I think there are two people fighting and living in everybody (two different sides to everyone) and this really speaks to that.

Thank you! It's sort of a recurring theme with me!
