Chapter 1: Making it to Alaska

Okay, so today was the big day!  Right now I am sitting on a big log at the Jakolof Bay dock waiting for my host to pick me up.  Alaska is incredible!  Never in my life have I been in such a beautiful place.  On the plane, as it was coming in, you could see the huge rugged mountains from way up in the sky.  The last plane flew me to Homer, and when I got off, I was surprised how small the airport was.  There was a older couple that was kind enough to give me a ride down to the spit so I could catch the water taxi to Seldovia, AK.  One can only get to Seldovia by plane, ferry, or water taxi, which made things more difficult.  Anyway,  I know I was driving the people on the water taxi insane, because I was so excited to be there I was literally having spasm attacks.  I was running to both sides of the boat to get as many views as possible, and I refused to go inside the shelter because I wanted to feel the cold that I wasn’t used to in early September.  That might have been one of the most joyful experiences I have been through in my life.  Especially after all the heartache my heart had been through, I had made it to ALASKA!  It was unreal.  Having grown up in the city, never have I been somewhere so quiet either, sitting on this log.  All the noise I hear is the shuffling in the boat nearby, and the water rolling on the rocks.  It is so quiet I swear I could hear the fog drifting by.  Sitting here, looking at the graveyard of abandoned cars surrounded by glorious pine trees, I waited for my host.  Though my phone was dead, and the the dark was coming and my host was thirty minutes late, I didn’t even start to worry.  I was in Alaska, and that was all that mattered.  I could even sleep out here at night with the wolfs and I wouldn’t mind.  I was so far away from my troubles and boring life.  I had finally done something I have always dreamed of.  I always wanted travel somewhere new.  How in the world did I get so lucky?
