Nala's Nine LivesA Poem by Allison PickA short poem detailing the short but painful life of my own cat, now deceased.
Baby kitty what are you doing
being so very shy? Silly kitty in the corner it’s you who I shall buy. Tiny kitty what are you doing hiding under the chair? Silly kitty when will you learn just how much I care? Little kitty what are you doing scratching up the table? Silly kitty, no no no don’t chew on that cable! Growing kitty what are you doing gnawing on the phone? Silly kitty stop destroying now your claws are gone. Tubby kitty what are you doing eating so much food? Silly kitty why won’t you at least try to be good? Big fat kitty what are you doing jumping on the bed? Silly kitty why can’t you obey what I just said? Wild kitty what are you doing battling a snake? Silly kitty don’t eat bugs they’ll make your belly ache. Skinny kitty what are you doing becoming so very ill? Silly kitty don’t you know malnutrition can kill? Aging kitty what are you doing letting the vacuum give you a scare? Sleeping kitty now you know your heart’s had all it can bear. © 2015 Allison Pick |
