Identity

Identity

A Poem by Allieburger
"

Always lost and never found.

"
After your eyelids part
for the first time,
how long is it before
you become a whole person?
Discovering and accepting yourself
are impossibly daunting tasks;
painstakingly slow.
Dragging your feet through each day
doesn't really bring you
any closer to an identity.
With every lesson you learn,
the more your bones begin to ache.
You'll forever be waiting
for that unimaginable promised epiphany,
but your ears will fall deaf
from repeated false affirmations,
before you ever,
find a sense of self.
You will die your own mystery,
and become erased from time.

Hello, unlike you I'm not a trained soul in language but I feel I can still suggest purely by my gut feeling if that's ok?
I believe poets are like politicians/magicians they have a very limited time to attract the reader, place a visual, then get their message across.
This is a very good piece (which to me flounders a bit)
As it has a few too many (little connecters words)
Ie (how long is it before) I think just as a suggestion (how long before)
I'm not for one minute saying I'm right and it is a tad daunting saying this to a professional but I do hope this is ok. If not plz go gently I'm new here ;0))
Re your question yes I think it's well worth it. Thank you
