light

light

A Poem by Allen Smuckler
"

Edited and changed for the inclusion in "Unknown Journey: A Voyage through Time".

"

You’ve missed the message I sent today

and lost the passion within.

You’ve left me in a moment of panic

and now there’s no return.

I always knew which way I’d turn

straight forward toward the light,

but moving forward is the easy part

it’s leaving the past that’s hard.

So drown my love in the tears of shame

for floundering in the abyss.

How can we salvage what we had

when the ship has left its port.

Take time to not forget our life

from then until forever.

It’s not my choice to end this race

I’ve simply lost my light.

And never shall I lose from sight

the message of above.

I’ll always know and feel the heat

from the power of our love.

Once again the ship embarks

on a voyage without me.

I spend what’s left of precious time

and think with all my might,

what may have been  and still can be

once we ignite the light.

Just beautiful worded, time passes, and is never turning back, just wrote my same fear underneeth a poem of Robbie here in WC. All is passing, and if the ship sails further, it's from one moment into another so rigorous and definitive. I feel that. A great write, and wonderfully expressed here. So the message is to all spend your time well, before it's to late, right...? Thank you.

this is multi-layered work, with a knack for creating dissonance. i appreciate the couplets, and the careful play between rhyme and off rhyme. "I spend what’s left of precious time" is my favorite muse within the piece, for none of us know how precious it is as we spend it. good work.

this can be taken in so many ways...but i would like to think that it shines hope for the future...and that the message will be read...with passion

A pleasure to read, a moving poem

A well written poem. The sorrow is felt but the hope remains as you have placed it between lines and into the end where you write, that it can be again...
Nicely done!

Bittersweet wisdom. A yearning for what is may be only memory, a resignation as hope ebbs that the light can be recaptured, the pieces made whole. Wonderful, of course

I could sense the immense wisdom through your words. You have chosen just the perfect picture for this flawless poetry, and every word, every emotion was greatly expressed, and the sorrow, the pain, and regret, it was all so heartfelt. This part was the one that spoke to me the most: "but moving forward is the easy part, it’s leaving the past that’s hard." Everything is so honest, so true, and there's this nostalgic lingering feeling left, and well, great job.
