The Hippy Boy

The Hippy Boy

A Poem by Allen Smuckler
"

Peace...Love....and Happiness... Woodstock Nation

"

We stopped in the

whispy city,

the hippy boy and me.

We thought of the

good times and bad,

and encouraged our minds

to be free.

We came upon a drifter

a dirty old man and

his wife.

We never felt the distance,

and imagined their life

without strife.

But where can we be

today

alone in our world

side by side.

We thought about

loving good times,

so great, and yet

 we cried.

Reenter the crispy-

like city,

snow covered,

serene & oblique.

We wandered around

with no purpose,

an oasis that just

sprung a leak.

And who never fought

the war,

the angular, meaningless

scourge.

We found all the cities

amuck,

yet all we could say

was good luck.

So who never sang

the song,

that glorious, soulful

olio.

Just me and that young

hippy boy,

While nobody else

really cared.

While nobody else

sang for joy.

This is absolutely beautiful I love the imagery.

the only thing i know about that era is the music, and the hippie culture i know from various clips and footage during the years. it feels like the characters are in a kind of limbo, but at least they had each other.

It can be relaxing. I like this, and this part here:
"But where can we be
today
alone in our world
side by side.
We thought about
loving good times,
so great, and yet
we cried."

Nice. A story well told. I have also found cities to be amuck.

What happen to the people who hated Vietnam? Now I hear whispers from the old Poet's and singers. I like your story. I have sat on four continent with people of all races, beliefs and color. We wanted the same. One peaceful day. We held dreams for a peaceful world for our children. Need a revolution of peace and healing. Need medicine and food for this world. I wish to find a hippy friend and look for a good place to rest. Thank you for the outstanding poem.
