The Games We Play

The Games We Play

A Poem by Allen Smuckler

Silly games we play

on the game board

of life…

under the pretense

of irritable hushes…

Silly games we play

on the game board

of life…

under the pretense

of irritable hushes…

and the stubborn

disingenuous excuses.

The games we play

as if we were twelve

remain with us and

cost us precious time

that neither of us

have to waste…

We move like pieces

and buy hotels or

rent rooms for the night

and play the games

only to hurt from

the loneliness,

self pity and confusion.

The games we play

are not as fun

as they used to be

when we were young,

because there’s so little time

left to enjoy them.

The games we play

are not games at all

but rather

the lives we

choose to live.

Takes a lot at times to realise this! A beautiful poem love...we so often play games and try to maintain some innocence but we have to wake up and realise they are not games anymore at some point! Wonderful work

Really great and love the wisdom and truth spoken, we can't excuse some behaviour it is just choices.. so nice work pal :)

I'm reminded of the 1968 hit by Joe South of the same title. Like so many things in life, I guess that which is a game to some is just normal behavior to others. I know what you mean, though, and it infers a basic dishonesty.

How true, so many people play games with life, with people, with their own paths as if they were returnable, that going back is easy. You've put similar thoughts in such a fine way, simply yet in the finest language, 'The games we play ~ are not as fun ~ as they used to be ~ when we were young, ~ because there’s so little time ~ left to enjoy them. ~ The games we play ~ are not games at all ~ but rather ~ the lives we ~ choose to live.'

This is really great! Just last week I was feeling frustrated by the silly games people feel the need to play with each other. This writing captured that perfectly. Terrific job, Allen!

Such truth penned here. If we would concentrate more on just living and being happy and extending that happiness to each other, this world would be a much better place to be in
