This Father

This Father

A Poem by Allen Smuckler
"

Love is "always" wanting to say you're sorry...

"

This father lost his way.

Along the journey

he forgot where he came from,

where he’s been,

where he’s going

This father makes mistakes,

knows not which way to go,

which direction is home.

As he sits and wonders,

will his daughter ever know.

This father makes mistakes.

Alone in his thoughts,

and with his fears,

alone in his wake…

This father awaits

his daughter’s call

Reminiscence…the past

when all was fun,

and we were young.

This father loves his daughter.

And needs her love in turn.

This father makes mistakes,

and forgets when he was young

This father makes mistakes

and should say he’s sorry,

more than not..

You mean everything to me

and my life’s a void

when you’re away.

This father makes mistakes.

But the one mistake

he never made,

was the one

in having you.

A wise man tries to gather his real gold in life. You are your daughter are a good looking pair in Florida. I lost my father for many years. We became great friends when I follow his path and understood his life. Thank you for the powerful story. I hope you a good ending with your daughter. When children get older. They learn life can be difficult. A excellent poem. Thank you.

Beautiful, sincere .. this has to be the greatest gift you've ever given her or ever will .. except her life.
Nobody's perfect .. and saints are so darned hard to live with!

This made me think of my wonderful father and how, even now that I'm an adult, my Pops always knows how to fix my problems. I understand so much more the difficulties of being a parent now that I am one. Its impossible not to make mistakes but if we love our children, help them grow and guide them, the mistakes are overshadowed. Terrific poem!

As parents our children come with no instruction. Often we find ourselves trying to run when we have not learned how to walk as our children try to walk when they have not yet learned to crawl. This touched me deeply as a mother.
