lonely soulsA Poem by Allen SmucklerWe don’t know the lonely souls we don’t know them at all they sit behind cascading
falls detached behind their walls
they walk amongst us every
day beneath the shimmering stars they sit beside us on a
plane to view our senseless pain
they chit and chat ‘bout
nothing much order the beverage of the
day listen to the tales that they
hear and hide inside their fears
still we ask them how they
feel how Johnny’s doing in school as if we care about the ‘A’ he nailed in History
we don’t know what lonely is until it slaps our face and only then do we pretend that we can comprehend
we settle for the girl next
door as sad and torn she is and dry the glistening tears to reminisce the years
the lonely souls who cry
inside formed from shapeless smiles lost the will so long ago before their hearts could
follow ...
