The Fourteenth

The Fourteenth

A Poem by Allen Smuckler
"

The heart is ever so fragile...be careful, handle with care- ars

"

My heart is like a fervent candle shrine,

hoping you will someday, somehow be mine;

short and sweet and thoughts like a neon sign,

inner beauty and outer warmth divine;

 your kindness and tenderness so benign,

the light you radiate ‘comes a design;

the hope you give me will never decline;

if you, Sunshine, will be my valentine.

Oh you romantic so and so, let me tell you for anyone who can bring about the emotions if the true summer of love is always okay in my books. Might even stand a round of drinks.

I love this, so tender, romantic, so fitting of Valentines Day. And I see this is yet another written while you were 19 years old. You most definitely have the heart of a poet and a very romantic one at that. The title is so perfect. Your poems and stories are so heart felt. That is just one of the reasons I adore your work. When I read your poems and stories I feel them from the inside out. Thanks for sharing these earlier poems written a few years ago. What a lucky girl to have been presented with this romantic and heart warming poem.

Nice photo and a beautiful and hopeful Valentine poem. Love was good when we were young and not afraid. Thank you for the excellent poem.

So, giving the new Thesaurus a workout, wot? Did the lucky lassie appreciate your craft...Oh, don't kid ME, Mister! You were 19: Of COURSE there was a lassie!
I should like to see these eight lines with a single rhyme expanded into a villanelle--you're already half-way there! Five stanzas of a-b-a, sixth stanza of a-b-a-a, first line repeated verbatim at 6th, 12th and 18th, third line repeated verbatim at 9th, 15th and 19th. Reference "Old Soldier" (mine), and Dylan Thomas's "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night". It's a challenge, but eminently doable...I DARE ya!
