Dear Allen

Dear Allen

A Poem by Allen S. Thomas

Dear Allen,

Why are you sad?

Is it the loss of life?

Is it the never-ending cycle of revenge?

Maybe it’s the thrill of the battlefield?

The insatiable hunger for war and destruction?

The young who are starving and will never know warmth?

The greedy who are lost and will never see the light?

Epic conflict, tragic loss, all enunciated by the winter breeze,

Or perhaps you get feeling that all is won and then realize all was lost?

Being a recorder of battle, a recorder of conquest,

Why are you sad Allen? Please tell me.

--Your poetic medium,
