Driven to Madness

Driven to Madness

A Poem by Alla Antsis

15 months after Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine

Officials seek opportunities to steal,

While soldiers earn double for lives, they reveal.

Ribbons, crosses, balloons, and stars they don,

Drowning their souls with debauchery's song.

As thousands lay sick, wounded, and deceased,

Fields filled with bodies, a sight that won't cease.

Buried haphazardly, lime masking the smell,

The aftermath's horror, too dire to tell.

Yet, the savages lead, their thirst uncontrolled,

driven to madness, their hearts growing cold.

Love's light retreats for years untold,

Generations corrupted; their spirits sold.

What a quagmire this has turned into. Fifteen months down the line and no sign of negotiations to end the carnage. It is what it is and you convey it well Alla. All war is futile. All good wishes to you.

Thank you for your review, Chris! Very much appreciated!
Such a use of words to speak of horror and stupidity. An extraordinary paen for peace over idiocy and greed for things that are emphemeral anyway. Sad and rightous. I would say wonderful but the subject is never that. But it is educational and poignant. Especially from another artist.
