WAR DRUMS

WAR DRUMS

A Poem by Alla Antsis
"

Ukrainian / Russian war continue

"

War drums beat with patriotic zeal,

Heroic soldiers stand to defend and heal.

International aid flows to the scene,

As gruesome media images paint a scene.

Smart bombs and bullets rain from the sky,

More soldiers sent to fight and die.

But when will this cycle come to an end?

When will peace and diplomacy finally blend?

The beauty of spring, with its budding flowers,

Is marred by the violence, that takes hold for hours.

The hope for tomorrow, seems so far away,

As the cost of war, rises with each passing day.

Families torn apart, homes destroyed,

Amidst the rubble, the world is devoid.

Who will pay for this destruction and strife?

More money flows, but corruption thrives.

The cycle of war and destruction goes on,

As we search for a way to break the bond.

It's time to embrace peace and reconstruction,

And put an end to this cycle of destruction.

"But still, the war drums continue to beat,
As countless lives are lost, in every street."

Have said and asked since my late teens...

if war is such a success when dealing with... whatever - why has there been more than one?

I support peace but Mankind as a whole seems to think otherwise for want of learning how to listen and use brains but find it easier and quicker to calciry along with bricks, mortar and bloody limbs.

Alla,

This is a powerfully truthful and candid piece of poetry that all peoples of this Earth should heed, for War can visit any and all nations ...

Thank you! Hope the war will never visit our lands, most are not prepared for the suffering
Sadly, since our species first stood upright, (and doubtless before even that,) conflict seems to have been genetically programmed into our makeup.

It is a strange thing indeed that the vast and overwhelming majority of us crave only to live in peace and harmony with each other, and yet, and still yet, we fall pray to the evil few who somehow climb to the top of the greasy pole then cause mayhem and havoc to run rife in our world.

I would like to imagine that someday it will all end, but in a world where neighbours will come to blows over such a simple thing as the siting of a fence post, I wonder if that is no more than dream never to be realised.

Your poem speaks loudly about the futility of it all.

Beccy.

Yes... indeed.

It is a shame. The blood shed of so many innocents caused by the never ending greed of the privileged.

I would say... all the trully rich and priviliged and influential and so... political...

Well... front line in the war to them all!!!

;) That would be the day!

Blessed be!!!

I agree. I was a soldier and I know. No-one wins in war.

The above lines, we do need. But the world leaders can't decide what is right and what is wrong. Thank you Alla for sharing the amazing and worthwhile poetry.

War is one of humanities absurdities. We have not evolved to the point that we are not our own worst enemy. I don't believe that this will happen until we end inequity.

War is the very antithesis of an ideal world. It's the end of a normal, happy life for many innocents, as they know it. Today, the bombs are sounding at a faraway place, at a distance but tomorrow they could be sounding right next to our own homes. So war is a tragedy for everyone and all must weep for the sufferers and do all they can to make things better for them. Your poetic voice is powerful and one of empathy and compassion. This poem throws up so many soul stirring questions and also hopes and dreams. Thank you for such thoughtful poetry.
