Chapter 3A Chapter by AllAmericanGirl
We went inside and I felt myself get nervous. Anxious, really. I wanted to be anywhere but here. Preferably all the way back home in the comfort of my home and my friends. “Hello,” the secretary seated behind her desk said to us as we walked in, noticing Jason. “Can I help you with something?” She asked Jason, clearly not noticing me. “Uh Yeah,” Jason said, not too nicely I might add. “How come she’s my roommate?” The secretary looked at me as if for the first time. That’s nice. He sure knows how to keep a room stuck on him. “Oh,” she said. “That shouldn’t have happened. We don’t normally have girls room with guys.” She checked something on the computer and we waited a few minutes. Then she looked at us. “I’m afraid nothing can be changed until the next semester. All the dorms are filled.” I sighed and Jason groaned. “You mean you can’t change anything or won’t?” he asked. Looks like he was desperate to get rid of me. “I can’t change anything until the new semester I’m afraid. Like I said.” She said. We turned around to leave when she said, “Oh, and I’m sure your father already knows about this arrangement Jason. So don’t worry about telling him.” We left and he kept giving me dirty looks as we walked back to the dorms. After a few minutes of this I got annoyed and I snapped at him. “Okay, what’s your problem? You don’t like me? You don’t even know me. So you’re stuck rooming with me. What’s the big deal? Seriously. Yes I’m a girl. And apparently I’m your roommate. So deal with it.” He looked a bit stunned. I would’ve laughed if I wasn’t so angry. “Do you have a problem with me or something?” I asked him. He glared at me and then softened up a bit. A bit. Not much. Then he sighed. “Look, I have my reasons. Let’s just leave it at that. I don’t mean to come off as I hate you. Your right. I don’t know you. And I don’t plan on it. We’re roommates. That’s it. Okay.” He stalked off leaving me staring off after him. Okay, I’ll admit it. That hurt. I sighed and followed him, but at a slower pace. He made it back to the dorm faster than I did. When I got back to our floor, Ami bombarded me. She looked anxious. “You’re rooming with Jason F*****g Foster!” she nearly screeched in my ear. I looked around and saw other girls staring and some glaring at me. What had I gotten into? “Don’t read too much into it,” I tried to tell her. “We can’t get it changed but he don’t even like me.” It was the truth and it did hurt a little but I held my stance like I didn’t care. Then I walked away to my room as she took this in. “Hey, wait up!” she said. I stopped and let her catch up and we went in my room together. Or, well technically, it was Jason’s and my room. I didn’t know if I was going to get used to that. Then she giggled. “I know you say it’s nothing, but to every girl on our floor, every girl in the school, it’s a big deal. You should know that, just to let you know. Not only does this never happen,” she moved her hands from my side to Jason’s side, clearly meaning rooming with a guy when you’re a girl, “It’s happening with Jason Foster.” Just then Jason walks out of the bathroom with wet hair and different clothes on. He glances at us and scowls. You know, this was getting annoying. It’d be better if he’d just ignore me, but no, he was obviously showing everyone how much he didn’t like me. Maybe that’d get the other girls off my back when they started. Doubtful much, they’d still be jealous. Don’t they know I’d trade rooms with them to get away from this? Apparently not. So instead of scowling back at him I smiled. He glared at me and then walked to the door. At that moment 2 guys walked in, knocking apparently being beneath them. “Hey, what’s up Jace? Heard you got a new roomie,” the one guy said as he noticed me. He had light brown hair and brown eyes. “Hiya!” he said winking at me. I shuddered. He laughed. “Oh s**t,” I said out loud. They all looked at me in question. I just remembered I forgot to call Jarrod in all this confusion. I looked at Ami and said , “Be right back. I need to make a phone call.” “What’s up with her?” I heard the guy asking Ami. I couldn’t see her because I was walking away from her towards the bathroom, but I could tell she was being flirty as she replied to him, “I don’t know. But what about you? What’s up with you?” I just shook my head and closed the bathroom door behind me. It occurred to me that I hadn’t been in here in the whole hour since I’ve been here. Then the fact that an hour had passed by finally got to me. Wow, I thought. I pulled out my cell phone and went through my contacts until I got to Jarrod. He answered on the second ring. “CAMI BABY! I’ve been waiting all day. I miss you!!” he said. I smiled as I listened to his voice. It had been nearly all day, since I woke and got on the plan and came here. “How are you holding up? How’s your roommate?” I laughed at that. “Hey Jarrod. I miss you, too.” More than I think I realized before I called, I thought to myself. “I’m holding up good. I made a new friend,” sort of, “ and my roommate has a temper somewhat but I think I can fix that.” No sense in telling him that my roommate is a guy and getting him worked up and jealous. Not that I minded that, but I didn’t want him worrying about us. Nothing was gonna change what I felt about him. We talked for the next fifteen minutes and then I told him I’d call him back later. He made me promise and then I hung up. When I left the bathroom and went back in the dorm, it was empty. I guess Ami went with Jason and his friends. I sighed. Oh well. I looked at the clock. It was around dinner time and the cafeteria’s were supposed to be opened. So I took a quick look in the mirror, did a quick fix and left. Well I didn’t know where I was gonna sit, but the food was supposed to be good. That had to be a plus to my negative day. I found myself missing my best friends and Jarrod even more. © 2009 AllAmericanGirl |
