PrayerA Poem by Alister FlikGive me eyes that look like they see; look like they are looking. Give me a mouth that speaks when it is closed, And blooms when it is open. Allow me a laugh that curls like a baby’s toes, And tears that weave life in frozen air. Let my emotions fall like water on stones Or bubble like a laughing brook. Grant that my words strike like fists on any hollow heart, and echo cries of war on my own apathy, or grant that they breathe empathy into every empty lung. Allow my pen to rip silence Through the violence of men, And bleed the black blood of a hero: Purpose to the battle of a blank page. Let my prayer not stop searching like a song For a reflection of the whole, And give me a soul to hold myself there, And let all of this go. © 2008 Alister FlikReviews
