Spooled Fool

Spooled Fool

A Poem by Alister Flik

Can you follow this thread of disappointment?

I must admit I weary of it.

Its continual uncoiling-whine deafens my ears

And rubs a fine burn on my soul.

From where does it unwind?

I can see no beginning or end—

Myself only matted in the fraying mass

Complicating around and in me.

Flicked elsewhere,

The stringed weapon responds to pinch my heart.

What horror!  It is all in connection!

Others hold power to knot me.

I am wrapped in this ever-snagging noose,

Uncertain who will give the final,

Trammeling, tug.

Yet, the universality of the knot

Suggests my struggling attempts at escape

Will only pull the mess in others.

I must remain still,

And breathe.

The imagery you paint with similes is simply amazing. You certainly managed to fend off the knots through this piece. The progression is clear, constant, and you weaved in the underlying thought quite nicely - from start to finish.

You write very well & I can only aspire to right in such a fashion...

Very well written. Almost sorrowful, yet calming. I liked it alot.

Ah, yes, remain calm - perhaps it will go away but most likely knots have a way fraying about us and enwrapping us until we can not find out escape.

Well written. Thank you.

What to say? I could be boring; say what is obvious: I like writing. I could be bizarre; say something random: I like frogs. I could be mysterious; say nothing: What do you want from me? Ask. .. more..
