Spooled FoolA Poem by Alister FlikCan you follow this thread of disappointment? I must admit I weary of it. Its continual uncoiling-whine deafens my ears And rubs a fine burn on my soul. From where does it unwind? I can see no beginning or end— Myself only matted in the fraying mass Complicating around and in me. Flicked elsewhere, The stringed weapon responds to pinch my heart. What horror! It is all in connection! Others hold power to knot me. I am wrapped in this ever-snagging noose, Uncertain who will give the final, Trammeling, tug. Yet, the universality of the knot Suggests my struggling attempts at escape Will only pull the mess in others. I must remain still, And breathe. © 2008 Alister FlikReviews
