Escaping me

Escaping me

A Poem by Jeannette Lunete

The father left for cigarettes
the smoke embraced the ashes of her trust
all they did was make her rust

The world was cold
Mother's eyes were colder
No one enlightened her when lessons got older
but the revenge plot was still in order

When her wisdom turned out to be a one - legged soldier
no one could grasp her
be restless with her, fonder

She would whisper words, make long pauses
she would always leave us speechless and exhaust us

Her goodbyes were never clear
all she cared about was to find an exit and disappear

She pushed herself so much away
and they let her vanish in vain

They found her ghost in the hills
the muse kissed her and let her worst critic drink all the pills

In your misconceptions she aimed to stay alive
but what a time to go and lie
find all the truths hidden behind her walls and still deny

I think it is time again
for her to fly
but change the route and betray paradigms

A tragic tale here. The mother in the poem seems to have been deeply troubled, probably depressed. She was indeed her own worst critic, and apparently her own executioner. I see no guilt anywhere here, for who really can tell what is in the heart of another?

abuse is not with impunity...
she will fly and drop him out of her sky.
great metaphor used here, Jeannette.
I love this kind of deep poetry that allows us to sink into it.
