Everafter

Everafter

A Poem by Joseph S

Today I write, today I read...

Today I have forgotten my phone at home

amidst the mountain of labels

Does it ring if no one is there to answer?

A friend awaits my call, A call I will never make.

Perhaps it is better this way

Today I have walked, walked a long while

No matter...

A familiar face amidst the crowd

I pretend I do not notice

A stranger in a strange place

Tonight I walk amidst the clouds

A strange place but no longer a

Stranger...?

The lack luster vision of livid illumination

Tomorrow I write tomorrow I read

The day after more of the same

The day after more of the...different?

I reach the river that flows both ways

aware of the turbid ebbing edge, both here and there

...both now and then

And here we stand, alone together.
