The lost children of our future

The lost children of our future

A Poem by Alida

We,
youthful minds without a place to rest,
hearts on ecstasy without ever taking it
stumbling through the dark void of our future
running, clumsily, falling
picking ourselves up
for there is no one else there
So we stumble on,
placing feet into darkness
hoping for them to find ground
yet knees always seem to find it first
with crumbling whispers,
tearing dreams, lustful eyes turn apathetic
letting go of all we believed
Once soft soles, untouched by reality
now dirty, scarred and withering away
for reality has found them
taken the innocent, the wishful thoughts
crushing them between adult palms
we were not supposed to be like them
yet scars, voids and heartbeats speak the truth
We,
desperately searching for a way
to come out of the dark tunnels of adulthood
for we have seen the light
crawl on all fours,
beg to gods we do not believe in
only to let our weary heads rest on solid rock.
