Outcast

Lyrics to a song I wrote. Sigh... if only I could actually sing.

I’m the one on the fringes of society

I’m the shadow that you fear, but you never see

I’m the name that you whisper in the silence like your darkest secret

 

I’m the one who is at home on the edge of night

I’m the monster you would kill if you saw me in the light

I’m the thief, I’m the assassin, I’m the liar, I am the demon

 

You don’t see the conscience I conceal inside

You don’t know how much it hurts to have to run and hide

You don’t see the scars I bear, the battles that I fight for your protection

 

I’ve gotta turn away from all I’ve ever known

Leave behind my fears and doubts and face the world alone

But it’s nothing new, I’m no stranger to rejection

A cold-hearted stranger

Living in a world from which I’m banned

With the purple, and the black, and the blood-red eyes

I’m the one that you fear, I’m the one you despise

Promise what you will, in the end you’ll still desert me

 

I’ve been beaten, I’ve been broken, I’ve been left for dead

Got a curse upon my name, got a bounty on my head

And there’s nothing new that you can do to hurt me

 

Can you search beneath the scars to find a broken soul?

Look beyond my yellow gaze and see a heart of gold?

Can you pity my existence? Am I worthy of your compassion?

 

From the darkness of my past I never will be free

Author's Note

This would be some sort of rock song - again, if I could actually sing/play a guitar/do musical things. The lyrics are inspired by some outcasts in literature - specifically, Drizzt Do'Urden from The Legend of Drizzt by R. A. Salvatore, Astrid from Outsider by Klaire de Lys (both of which are awesome books/series that I highly recommend), and finally, Gideon from a story that I wrote called Soul-Star.

This is brilliant! The line that I really loved the most was the epic guitar solo! That's so funny in contrast to the seriousness of the poem.

I also love the sadness mixed with pain in the comparison to being an outcast and a demon. I can relate to that!

This is such an amazing poem turned into golden lyrics. What raw, unrelenting deep emotions. The poem is powerful. I loved the verses after the amazing guitar solo(you bet i imagined it), and how you stress on who i really am. That is the most powerful part of the poem and it's due to the initial build up that it sounds so good ^^
