RavenhillA Poem by AliciaBInspired by a scene from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five ArmiesUpon the hill, across the ice, Where bitter virtue battles vice, Three hearts together dance along To sorrow’s sweetly aching song.
A love new-sown in youthful hearts Yet ancient as the brilliant stars Now in the starlight must remain; No joy on Earth left, only pain.
No vows of holy union said, Yet holy and forever wed. For death cannot real love abate, Though lonely sorrow be the fate.
The tears that blur her perfect eyes Are echoes of his silent cries. He breaks his own heart, so to leave The one he treasures free to grieve.
Now he turns to paths unknown To leave behind his kin and home And healing words that sorrow tell Are fitting for this last farewell. A father, who had never dared To voice the grief his child shared Now speaks new hope into his son - And all the father loves is gone.
The hidden pain of love long lost Has turned his heart to silver frost. Yet sorrow, hot and red, now flows Which all too well the ice-heart knows.
Their hearts can never be made full - Two broken halves make not a whole - Yet souls intangibly embrace In tears that shine upon each face.
Countless years will pass them by ‘Til reunited in the sky Where Heaven’s joy will bring them home; But ‘til then, they must walk alone.
Upon the hill, across the ice Of victory and sacrifice The lovely learn for true love’s sake How many ways the heart can break. © 2016 AliciaBFeatured Review
