Chapter Four- MabelA Chapter by Alice ReihtOMG it deleted and I had to retype the whole thing *sobs*Mabel's eyes grew as round as the buttons on her sweater as she took in the newcomer. "Oh my gosh, Dipper!" She whispered, her voice bouncing with excitement. "Looks like we've got a new friend, and she's a girl!" She practically skipped over to the girl, her hair bobbing with every step. Dipper rolled his eyes but couldn't help the smile that tugged at his lips. "Mabel, remember what Grunkle Stan said about giving people space when they first arrive." Mabel paused, then turned back to Dipper, her cheeks flushing a little. "Oh right, sorry." She took a step back, trying to tone down her excitement. "But seriously, welcome to our little slice of weirdness!" She extended a hand towards the newcomer. "I'm Mabel, and this is my totally not-weird-at-all twin, Dipper. And that," she pointed to the deer that was now galloping away into the woods, "was just a little taste of what Gravity Falls has to offer." She took Mabel's hand with a small laugh, her eyes sparkling. "Thanks for the warm welcome. And, yeah, that was definitely not what I was expecting." She glanced around the room, taking in the cluttered shelves and oddities that filled the space. "So, what's the deal with the deer?" "It's a long story, but basically, Mabel here has a habit of turning animals into... well, not animals anymore." Dipper nodded to the deer. "That's just our latest victim of Mabel's 'Mabel Juice'." Mabel poked her tongue out at her brother. "It's not my fault he looked tired!" She turned back to the girl, her grin never faltering. "So, what's your story? Why are you here in Gravity Falls?" The girl's smile grew as she took in the whimsical energy of her new environment. "Well, my story's kind of simple. I'm Raven, and I'm here for the summer because I needed a change of scenery." She looked around the gift shop, her eyes lighting up as she spotted a glittery rock on a shelf. "And if weirdness is what Gravity Falls has, then I've definitely come to the right place." Mabel clapped her hands together. "Oh, you're going to love it here! We've got mystery, adventure, and... well, more mystery. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We should get you settled in." Dipper nodded in agreement, his eyes still scanning the room. "Yeah, and maybe figure out how to keep the wildlife out of the house." Raven chuckled. "I think I can handle it." She leaned in closer to Mabel, her eyes twinkling mischievously. "But, do you think you could save a little bit of that Mabel Juice for me?" Mabel gasped dramatically. "You want in on the fun?" Raven grinned. "You bet." The twins shared a look, and Dipper sighed. "Looks like we've got ourselves a partner in crime." He gestured towards the stairs. "C'mon, I'll show you to the attic. It's where we all crash."Mabel's eyes sparkled as she looked at Raven. "You're going to fit in just perfect here, Raven!" She led the way up the stairs, her rainbow-colored socks leaving a trail of whimsy. " if you need more... pizzazz, just let me know." Dipper followed, a smirk playing on his lips. "Just don't let Mabel go crazy with the glitter. Last time it looked like a unicorn threw a rave up here." Raven laughed. "No, no, it's great. I like it cozy and a bit mysterious. I've got a few ideas to make it mine." Entering the attic, Mabel spun around with her arms outstretched. "Behold! Our humble abode!" She pointed to the bed with the stack of books. "That's Dipper's fortress of grumpy solitude. And that," she waved at the glittery bed, "is my glamorous palace of happiness." Dipper snorted. "And I'm stuck with the glitter fallout." Raven took in the space, the warm scent of aged wood and a hint of Mabel's fruity perfume filling the air. "It's just right. Thanks for the tour." Mabel bobbed her head. "But we're not done yet! After dinner, we hit the town. Gravity Falls is full of secrets, and me and Dipper are like, the Mystery Twins!" Her grin was infectious. Dipper leaned against the wall, his arms crossed. "But first, Raven, are you into all that paranormal stuff? Because this place is basically a buffet for the weird and unexplained." "I've always had a thing for the weird and the wicked." Raven smiled. " I'd like to see what this town can throw at me." " Well sister, you've come to the right place!" Mabel smiled. She began to continue, but she was interrupted by Stan's loud holler of, "DINNER!" Raven shrugged, and the trio began down the stairs. "Maybe we can find some of those drunk deer afterwards?" Raven giggled. "I'd like to see some of this town's weird mysteries." Well," Dipper shrugged. "i'd say Stan's dinners are some of the biggest mysteries in this town." The three of them laughed once again, trotting into the kitchen as the smell of sizzling eggs and toast filled the air. "Breakfast for dinner all right?" Stan ruffled Mabel's hair with a chuckle. Mabel giggled, grabbing her uncle's hand. "Sounds awesome!" Stan laughed, lifting her up and placing her on his shoulders. "I am the king of the world!!" Mabel hollered. Mabel turned to see Raven and Dipper, setting a few plates along the table and chatting to each other. I hope Dipper doesn't go through the Wendy phase again. Mabel frowned slightly, before yelping as Stan jumped back from the oven, shaking his hand wildly. "Ow, ow, ow, ow-" He seethed through his teeth. "Oh!" Raven jumped from the table, grabbing a dish towel and running it under the cold water. She then ran to Stan, wrapping the towel around his hand. "Burned yourself?" She asked as Stan nodded. "How about you sit down and I'll finish dinner?" Raven smiled. Before Stan could answer, she was already at the stove, stirring eggs and grabbing toast. "Um, thanks?" Stan finally managed. He set Mabel down in a chair, walking to the fridge and pulling out drinks. "Well, it smells great in here!" A voice from the doorway laughed. Grunkle Ford!" Mabel giggled, hugging the tall man's leg, before he picked her up and spun her through the air with a smile. He set her back down, before looking to the stove. "Raven!" He said, grinning as she turned around, smiling. "Glad to see you joined us." Raven chuckled, wiping her hands off as Grunkle Stan began to set plates. "Thought I could help Stan out with dinner." "Great-Uncle Ford, how do you know Raven?" Dipper asked from the table. "We, uh, we met earlier." Ford shrugged. As Raven set down a few glasses, Stan clicked a few knobs of the stove. However a large blast of smoke shot from the oven door, right in Stan's face. The fire alarm suddenly pierced through the space, Mabel wincing as she covered her ears with her hands. Ford grabbed a screwdriver and began jamming it into the bottom of the alarm, muttering some curse under his breath that was inaudible from the alarm's noise. Raven then jumped up, grabbed the alarm, and ripped it straight off the wall. The noise died, and the kitchen was in silence for a moment, before Stan laughed. "Well, that was one way to fix it!" The tension in the room was soon lost, replaced by a mixed laughter. Raven sat the box on the counter, before Mabel ran up and took Raven by the hand. "Come sit with me Raven!" She smiled as they sat down. Raven returned the grinning, before hoisting her glass of orange juice in the air. "To starting off with chaos!" She cheered. The rest of them repeated, laughing once again. As they all began to eat, Mabel turned to Raven with shining eyes. "You know what, Raven?" She grinned. "I think we're gonna have a good summer." "Raven nodded, leaning back in her chair. "I think so too, Mabel." She smiled. "A good, good, summer" © 2025 Alice ReihtAuthor's Note
