Velvet Roses

Velvet Roses

A Poem by Alice Patinkin
"

Written when I was 15

"
Velvet Roses
Fall so silent
Soft upon velveteen ground
In the cool grey cemetery
Softly speaking
Words like velvet from or velvet lips

But what lies there?
Beneath velvet shrouded earth?
We divert our velvet eyes

Harsh decay
It waits there...
The corpses scream of our demise
Far beneath our velvet skies

I love the symbolism in this, "we avert our velvet eyes." It goes to show how much we candy coat things. Great write x
