GhostA Poem by Alice PatinkinAt night I am visited By the ghost of beauty's past Oh ghost, won't you let me be? You were my lover, when you were living But now your sweet words ring empty They are a mumble, a whisper That time has impaired Your caress is but a memory Of living moments once shared Between two young souls Whos love fell sickly and died And now hangs like a curtain Of which is born without pride Let me rest, you lonely ghost, When I close my eyes to sleep! Why do you haunt me onward so And unsuspectingly leap Into my dreams and happy thoughts? I bid thee a strong farewell.. or not Faring well I doubt you'll ever do Out in the cold or invading my thought You cause nothing but troubling muse And I'll never be rid of these scars Or the memories that taste so sweet Upon my mind, but upon my word I will manage, I will compete In the race, the chase, the capture Of something better yet to come But I'll always love you, ghost And myself, your host Till the final rapture Claims us both © 2013 Alice PatinkinAuthor's Note
