The Living Lies

The Living Lies

A Poem by Laura Pruett

These are the silent lies

The ones we live each day

Showing only in our eyes

In that oh so subtle way

People come and then they go -

They make no sound

Like an old-time picture show

The movie reel goes round

Hard to breathe or eat or sleep

Pretending not to care

We sow only what we reap

And nothing isn't fair

In these walls I am alone

In pain and in disguise

My heart hardened to a stone

Deep within these silent lies

You have a powerful pen. This is really wonderful work. There is depth of expression in this piece. Well done!

A little heart-wrenching and sorrowful, but masterfully done. The lines have a sobering effect on you when you think about some of the things that happen in your day to day life that just start to crack and chip away slowly at your happiness and even your sanity.
